Workshops: Jharia the burning city:

Creators In Focus conducts immersive documentary photography workshops in real-world locations like the Jharia Coalfields. The workshops are designed to give participants hands-on experience in storytelling through photography. Participants learn how to document real human stories—focusing on subjects like the lives of coal mine workers, their struggles, working conditions, health challenges, and environment. The program includes on-field shooting, visual storytelling techniques, ethical documentation, and guided mentorship.

Living Traditions – Devmali Village:

Creators In Focus documents life in Devmali, a village in Rajasthan where traditional culture continues to exist almost unchanged. The people here still follow age-old customs, and their attire, lifestyle, and daily practices reflect a deep connection to the past. The village is devoted to the worship of Devnarayan Bhagwan, and this belief shapes every aspect of life. Alcohol consumption is strictly avoided, and it is believed that all land and homes are dedicated to the deity. Remarkably, houses in the village are often left unlocked, reflecting a strong sense of trust and faith within the community.

Sonpur Mela:

Creators In Focus also conducts documentary photography workshops at the Sonepur Mela, typically held from mid-November to mid-December, allowing participants to immerse themselves in one of the most historically rich and culturally vibrant fairs in India. Held annually in the town of Sonpur in Bihar, at the confluence of the Gandak and Ganges rivers, the fair has, for centuries, been a remarkable meeting point of trade, tradition, and storytelling. For many, the name Sonepur Mela evokes a deep sense of nostalgia and wonder—stories from childhood that spoke of a marketplace where everything from needles to elephants could be found, creating an image of a truly extraordinary gathering. These impressions continue to inspire curiosity and draw people toward experiencing the fair in their own unique way.

Slum Life Documentation – Kolkata:

Creators In Focus documents the harsh realities of life in the slum areas of Kolkata, where families live in extremely confined spaces. In many cases, 6 to 10 family members share a single room—sleeping on the same bed, cooking, eating, watching TV, studying, and living their entire lives within that one space. The narrow lanes are so tight that a person can barely walk through them properly. Most residents earn their livelihood by working in other people’s homes as domestic workers, while some are involved in leather cutting and small-scale manual labor. The project also highlights the challenging conditions for visual documentation.

Life & Death in Varanasi:

Creators In Focus documents the unique spiritual landscape of Varanasi, a city where life and death coexist in their most visible and profound forms. Along the ghats of the Ganges River, one can witness the continuous cycle of existence—morning prayers, daily rituals, and funeral ceremonies happening side by side. The project explores the lifestyle of people deeply rooted in Hindu traditions, where faith shapes everyday life. From priests performing sacred rituals to families carrying out last rites, the city offers a direct encounter with the philosophy of life, मृत्यु (death), and moksha (liberation).

Brick Kiln :

Creators In Focus also conducts documentary photography workshops in traditional brick kiln sites, where participants document the lives of laborers and the donkeys used in the brick-making process—practices that have continued for generations. The workshop focuses on capturing the daily routine, working conditions, and lifestyle of these workers, as well as the role of animals in their labor. It also highlights the surrounding communities, including families from historically marginalized caste groups, such as those traditionally engaged in washing work.

Dhobi Ghat, Colors of life:

Creators In Focus also conducts documentary photography workshops focusing on the river landscapes of eastern India, where participants document the ecological and cultural significance of the region. Originating near Padma in the Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand, the river flows for approximately 225 kilometres across the northern stretch of the Chota Nagpur Plateau, shaping the lives of communities along its path. The workshop focuses on capturing the river’s journey as it moves largely from west to east, highlighting its relationship with the land, local livelihoods, and surrounding environments. Participants explore how the river supports agriculture, sustains settlements, and connects different regions before eventually merging with the Damodar River near Dishergarh in Asansol, in the Bardhaman district of West Bengal.
